80CrV2

80CrV2 is a high-carbon chromium-vanadium tool steel with a loyal following among fixed blade makers who prioritize toughness and ease of field sharpening over stainless convenience. The chromium content provides modest rust resistance — not stainless, but meaningfully better than plain carbon steels — while the vanadium addition refines the grain structure for improved toughness and wear resistance. Heat treated properly, 80CrV2 develops a very fine edge and sharpens easily on simple stones, which matters when you're far from home. It's a working steel through and through, and it's found a strong home in the bushcraft, hunting, and hard-use fixed blade communities.
