Cruwear is a Crucible tool steel that occupies a compelling position for fixed blade work — it offers meaningfully better edge retention than CPM-3V alongside comparable toughness, making it a strong choice for knives that need to hold an edge under hard use without becoming brittle. It's a semi-stainless, with enough chromium to resist surface rust better than plain tool steels but not enough to claim stainless status. Heat treated to appropriate hardness, Cruwear delivers a very fine, toothy edge that excels at slicing tasks. It remains relatively uncommon in the custom market, which makes pieces in this steel stand out.
