Tom Mayo is a custom knifemaker known for tight tolerances and bead-blasted titanium framelocks that feel like a single piece of metal in the hand. This wharncliffe pairs his fit-and-finish with a Damascus blade — pattern-welded steel made by forge-welding alternating layers of steel together, then grinding and etching to reveal the pattern. Beyond the visual signature, that layering is a centuries-old way of combining a harder edge-holding steel with a tougher, more forgiving one in a single blade.
